Merry Christmas from UK

Merry Christmas from UK

Gary has shared a photo with us of his new reef tank using our Atlantik V2.1 LED Lights.  Gary chose our units based on quality, spectrum and PAR per watt.

There are many reefers in the UK who now use Orphek LED lighting over their reefs because Orphek LEDs produce results. This weekend Gary is planning to complete the electrical portion of the install and fill the tank.  We will share more photos of Gary's tank upon completion.

Orphek Revolutionary Atlantik V2.1 Four spectrum channels

Orphek has already set the standard in the market for its advanced comprehension of color spectrum and its influence on coral physiology and once again the Atlantik V2.1 is another cutting-edge and groundbreaking technology, bringing a revolutionary change in the spectrum provided by Orphek diodes; by providing a real product developed specifically for the needs of photosynthetic marine invertebrates.

Chlorophyll

THE STUDY

Orphek’s commitment to efficiency brought to the company a new challenge: How to improve our LED lighting systems in order to increase benefits by advancing in the field of spectrum control.

By being in constant contact with researchers and specialists around the globe, the Orphek Development Team gathered enough studies and information about chlorophyll density in corals and their relationship and influence on color and coral growth. It has been proven that corals cannot survive without chlorophyll A and they depend on it to receive the necessary nutrients to grow.

Crossing the data of biophysical properties X absorption of light X photosynthetic capacity X increasing of chlorophyll A levels, Orphek found the perfect light spectrum to enhance the photosynthesizing pigments commonly called zoanthellae.

Determining how corals reflect and absorb light in different wavelengths it is possible also to examine and determine which optimal range is required to increase levels and therefore help corals to increase biomass and pigmentation and avoiding coral bleaching.

Chlorophyll-a-and-b-spectrum-corals

As shown in the chart above the spectrum range between 380-440 nm and between 670-650nm is the desired wavelengths to increase chlorophyll A.

Orphek’s major goal was to increase the lumens per watt in the lower spectrum range of  380-440 nm.

The problem with common UV/violet diodes is that they provide only approximately 0.5 to 4 lumens per watt.  These wavelengths appear darker than other wavelengths to the human eye’s receptors. To overcome this problem of low Lm/w, Orphek developed a new wide spectrum white UV/violet LED with high intensity in the 410 nm and 420nm wavelength ranges with higher lumens per watt!

WHAT ORPHEK ACCOMPLISHED

Orphek’s new wide spectrum white UV/violet LED increased the intensity of Lm/W by up to 15 times more than any common UV/violet LED.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

It means that Orphek is the only company that can provide you a cutting-edge solution that uses 19 UV/violet LED dual-chip Total of 38x 3Watt Chip In ATv2.1 which has never been achieved before by any other company without leaving your tank in the dark! This is a major cutting-edge improvement and our contribution to the evolution of LED reef lighting.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT?

By using 19 UV/violet dual-chip LEDs we are increasing the amount of chlorophyll A. Therefore your corals will expand in biomass and will receive more pigmentation (growth & color).

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REGULAR WHITE LED AND ORPHEK’S NEW WHITE UV/VIOLET LED?

As shown in the chart below, in a normal white LED the highest given spectrum power is at the range of 450nm , which gives in fact Chlorophyll B (check chart in the middle) and not the desired Chlorophyll A that is given at the range of 430nm. Orphek’s new white UV/Violet diodes accomplished to reach its highest given spectrum power at 410nm - 430nm, which is optimal to achieve the highest increasing  levels of Chlorophyll A.

And there are further significant advantages!

chlorophyll A Spectrum LED

Another revolutionary improvement never achieved before is that our new Atlantik V2 Wireless fixture also comes with our wide blue and wide red LEDs.  Our new blue/cyan LED increases the intensity within the 470nm-520nm spectrum, so your corals will also gain much more in terms of fluorescence!

Our diodes also help corals to reach high levels of chlorophyll c2 and carotenoid pigments, giving corals vivid colors by increasing their optical absorption properties and reducing the risk of bleaching significantly!

Azurelite Led Flashlight Review by recifalnews.fr

Recifical News, a highly regarded marine information blog in France has recently reviewed the Orphek Azurelight.  This is a must read for all those wanting to take great photos of their corals as well as inspect colonies for good health and have the ability to view those critters that only come out in the evening and do so without alarming the fish.

Azurelite Led Flashlight Review by recifalnews.fr  (nov 29 2014)
Here comes the test of Orphek's Azurelite, with text and images.

The uboxing of the Azurelite flashlight from Orphek have been made by Alderas and is available here (in English) or here (in  French)

azurelite-led-flashlight-review-by-recifalnews-fr

In the first place, let's remind that this flash lite can be usefull in the folowing situations:

  • Observes the corals after after light's out

  • Stalk, after light's extincton, the shy or undesirable animals and discover what's happening in the caves and other dark places of the tanks

  • When you are shopping for corals, discover their fluorescence if the tank lighting is not good enough.

In order to estimate the usefulness of a such product, this test aim at determine if the Azurelite is assess coral fluorescence quickly and easily. To achieve that, 10 coral have been photographied under different 5 lightings :

  • Led pendant Evergrow, blue and white led

  • Led pendant Evergrow, blue and white led + Azurelite

  • Led pendant Evergrow, blue led

  • Led pendant Evergrow, blue led + Azurelite

  • Azurelite

For each coral, the photos under the five lights are presented in this order.

For information, my tank, that have been used for this test, is young and its corals are quite small.
Photos have been took by night, without light in the room, by a Canon 550D with a camera lens 75 - 300mm with 3 extension tubes (total length 5 cm), on a tripod and a self timer. photos with light traitment 3,4 and 5 have been made with a personalized white balance,by a photo of the white plastic Plenum , made very closely and under blue ligthing, without Azurelite
Contrast and colors have been automatically adjusted with Gimp 2.6, in order to obtain a rendering closer to reality.
Moreover, I begin in macro protography.

Test 1: the Silunaria sp. green with high fluorescence

Silunaria-sp- green

To say the least, the Azurelite is able to strenghten fluorescence when the coral is under normal condition and secondly it is also able to relieve it , even if it is the only light source. This statement confirms the usefulness of the Azurelite, at least for the coral with strong green fluorescence.

Test 2: red Zoanthus sp.

red-Zoanthus- sp

This zoanthus are red, green and blue, but in normal conditions, only the red and the green are fluorescent. This step shows that the azurelite is able to relieve the red fluorescence. However, no surprise with the blue part of the Zoanthus, which is not fluorescent with the normal lighting of the tank.

Test 3: The blue Palythoa sp.

blue-Palythoa-sp

Under normal lighting, the turquoise blue fluorescence of this coral is not so obvious to the naked eye and difficult to catch with camera, but is still observable. Unhappily the turquoise light is not able to relieve this little fluorescence, indeed the palythoa and its plug are highlighted in the same colour. On the contrary, the green/yellow fluorescence of the heart, which is weaker than the blue one, is really viewable, which is a very good point foir the Azurelite

Test 4: The blue Caulastrea sp.

blue-Caulastrea-sp

This time, the blue fluorescence is stronger and is strenghten by the Azurelite. Hlike with the palythoas , the yellow fluorescence of the heart is more observable with the Azurelite than with the pendant.

Test 5: The green Echinopora sp. with the green polyps

green-Echinopora-sp

The purple of this coral is not flurorescent in normal conditions and Azurelite can not do better, the blue color on the second photo is not fluorescence. One more time, the fluorescence of the green/yellow heart is more visible with the Azurelite than in normal conditions. Test the azurelite on my tank make me realize that my actual lighting don't show all the beauty of my corals.

Test 6: the purple and green Sanctithomae sp.

purple-green-Sanctithomae-sp

One more time, the purple is not fluorescent, contrary to the basis. One more time, the Azurelite enhances fluorescence which are hardly visible in normal conditions. Nonetheless, you may have noticed that the Azurelite gives a truquoise blue color at everything which is not fluorescent. I was afraid that this lighting do not permit to appreciate the delicacy of the little outgrowth of this very atypical coral, but I was wrong.

Test 7: the red Entacmea quadricolor with green reflects

red-Entacmea-quadricolor

Without any surprise, the Azurelite is able to show the red fluorescence. On the contrary, the green reflect we can oberve with the blue lighting only is not relived by the Azurelite .

Test 8 : The green Rhodacthis sp. with the deep purprle basis

green-Rhodacthis-sp

I love this coral for this contrast between the high fluorescence of its the outgrowth and the deep color of the basis With the Azurelite, this contrast is quite well conserve. As we already observed, the green fluorescence looks more yellow with the flashlight, even if the dominant color remain green.

Test 9 The green and greenEuphyllia sp. !

green-Euphyllia-sp

Azurelite succeed to shox the green fluorescence, but it colors themonth in blue on the second photo, which is a surpriseful artifact. However this problem does not occur anymore if the Azurelite is used alone .

Test 10: The green Acroporas sp. which suffered in the past

green-Acroporas-sp

I have obtained this acropora which had lost a part of its tissue at its basis, probably due to a lack of light . With a classic lighting, it is possible to not detect this kind of mater, due to the coral position and the incidence of the light, wich never changes. With the Azurelite it is now possible to check the good healthof the tissus the less accessible, and in a very easy way, thanks to the fluorescence.

Conclusion

This test has proven that the Azurelite, as small as handling, is fully cabaple to relieve the coral fluorescence. Moreover, this amazing tool axraed me that my actual lighting is not able to fully relieve the entire fluorescenece of my corals. I also understood that the Azurelite will help to check the if the basis or the heart of my biggests colonies is not whitening.

Orphek Atlantik Pendant PAR testing

Orphek Atlantik Pendant PAR testing has been completed and the results are in. This is the most versatile LED aquarium light on the market. The Atlantik Pendants ability to cover tanks from shallow grow out systems to deep water reef tanks in excess of 10+ feet (3 meters) deep make it one of the best multi-purpose lights available to the aquarium industry professional.

High quality components along with the Atlantik spectrum give it the edge over the competition by focusing on the needs of invertebrates and providing a specifically tuned spectral output. More info about Atlantik Spectrum.

The Atlantik Pendant is available with many options allowing the light to be tailored for the environment in which it is used. There is an Atlantik Pendant for Freshwater installations, Saltwater systems and Coral Farms. Each unit is available with or without WIFI control. Non-WIFI units are also available with or without dimming capability.

The Atlantik Pendant is able to cover a wide range of tanks utilizing multiple lens options ranging from five degrees for deeper tanks all the way up to our wide angle convex lens giving the most spread while maintaining high PAR numbers. Lens options available are in degrees of 5, 7, 10, 15, 45, 60 and Wide Convex.

PAR numbers and coverage for the 3 most common lens options are available in the following sections. Each unit was tested over a 6 foot x 4 foot area at heights of 24 inches, 36 inches and 48 inches. The 5 degree unit was tested at 4 feet, 8 feet and 12 foot heights.

Atlantik Pendant- Wide Convex lens. This is the most common lens option. Utilizing the convex lens configuration of the original Atlantik series, these units give the best combination of spread and intensity. Best suited for tanks up to 30 inches deep and coral growout systems.
