AFTER 1.5 YEARS, ATLANTIK IS STILL A POWERHOUSE

Still going strong after 1.5 years, this Atlantik v1 is one of the first units off the assembly line and is still holding its own with PAR ratings that beat all other models on the market.

The unit is on 12hrs/day for a total of approx. 6500hrs use in the last year and a half. The PAR testing shows that the par levels have not decreased through the course of use.

The Apogee par meter was placed 0.8 meters (31.5 inches) below the Atlantik pendant.

Check this link for the original PAR testing from the owner of the
light. http://youtu.be/pgdHxkk69W8

Orphek HELIX 5000 PROTEIN SKIMMER

ORPHEK RELEASES THE NEW HELIX 5000 PROTEIN SKIMMER
WITH CONTROLLABLE HIGH RPM DC NEEDLE WHEEL PUMP

Orphek is proud to announce the release of their new Helix 5000 Protein Skimmer. The Helix design vastly improves contact time in the reaction chamber while producing an enormous amount of very small micro bubbles. The increased amount of micro bubbles results in more waste being collected per hour than any other conventional protein skimmer on the market. Requiring less space in the sump, large bulky skimmers are not required.

The Helix design in combination with the high rpm DC pump moves large volumes of water in a spiral like fashion into the reaction chamber. This creates a high speed cylindrical water motion which increases contact time. Our Dual impeller design at the bubble plate works in conjunction with the helical water flow to further reduce the bubble size in order to increase surface area. The attached Bubble Diffuser is constructed of High Grade SUS316 Stainless Steel. The cone shaped body promotes the waste laden bubbles to rise into the collection cup at a faster rate. The white base, pump and trim dictate the same purity as the water it produces.

Why is our Helix skimmer better than the competition? Because of our uniquely designed dual impeller and stainless steel spiral bubble diffuser which reduces the size of the bubbles to promote more contact area for waste to adhere to. The first impeller making contact with the water chops the bubbles up to a fine consistency. The second impeller has our high grade stainless steel spiral bubble diffuser integrated with the impeller to further reduce bubble size and increase bubble volume. The results are more and smaller bubbles coupled with a high volume water movement into the reaction chamber. The high speed horizontal water column increases bubble contact time in the reaction chamber which allows more waste to adhere to the bubbles. Our bubble plate then diffuses the bubbles and reduces turbulence of the water entering the conically shaped riser tube which helps prevent premature bubble breakage of the nutrient rich bubbles entering the riser tube.

The high speed 5,000 l/h DC controllable pump with controller offers high rpm impeller speed to move more water, more quickly, and more efficiently. There is also a feed button on the controller to prevent premature extraction of additives. With a DC pump and controller, you can now take full control of your skimmer to give you exactly the skim you’re looking for. The pump is very energy efficient, drawing only 40 watts of power at full rpm and features a long lasting durable ceramic shaft.

All components used in the Orphek Helix Protein Skimmer have been designed to work seamlessly and integrate smoothly with each other. Our skimmer will outperform any other skimmer in its price range. Experience the results of the Orphek Helix Protein Skimmer for yourself and the results will be a cleaner and nutrient free aquarium. High grade PVC and acrylic used throughout.

SEA SOUNDS RELAX VIDEO

SEA SOUNDS RELAX VIDEO

Orphek Sleep with the Ocean is a one-hour ambient movie with a combination of the sounds of breaking waves on a shoreline, the natural sound of waves crashing on rocks with background scenes of a soothing and relaxing dive into a reef aquarium. The magnificent colors and shapes of the corals under Orphek LED lighting solutions unfold a beautiful undersea journey that starts at the beach.

Designed specially by Orphek for one uninterrupted hour of relaxation, meditation and background ambience for sleeping sessions, this video also offers beautiful close ups of corals in a reef tank.

“Imagine a clear blue sky. Now imagine yourself barefoot walking on a long sandy beach. Smell the salty briny scent of the seawater. Feel the sun warming your skin. Listen to the sound of the sea as the waves slowly retreat back out to the sea after breaking gently on the shore. As you walk slowly feel the warmth of the white sand on your feet. You will experience a complete calm day at the beach. You are about to connect to Nature. You will redirect all your attention to the water as you slowly walk towards the sea. Imagine yourself living all your problems behind. Leave all your worries, stress and unhappy thoughts behind. You are now on vacation. You are now connecting only to Nature. As the water touches your feet close your eyes and listen to the sounds of the sea. Feeling refreshed, breathe slowly as you enter deeper into the water. Feel your body sinking more and more into relaxation. Feel the tension slowly leaving your body. Once you are in let yourself drift on the water. Clear your mind. As you are carried away from the beach by the water you are being carried away of your thoughts. Let yourself go slowly into a deep dive into the sea. Dive into the water and let the beauty of corals and fish amaze you…”

Shimmering marine waters, breaking waves, white salty foamy bubbles covering sea rocks and sand shores, endless blue horizons, and deep diving scenes attracts people all over the world seeking peace and renewal.

But why exactly the sound of the ocean affects our brains?

We already know that the planet we live in – the Earth – has 71% of its surface covered by water and oceans hold about 96.5% of that amount, but we know almost nothing on how the sound of the ocean affects the brain.

An adult body contains 60% of water and it is essential for our lives. It represents about 70% of the total weight of the brain.

Fact is that humans are connected to water even before birth. From the very beginning of our lives in the uterus we are protected by amniotic fluid.

We know that the path to calm and quiet is through repetition of the meditation sound, and by redirecting our attention to the sounds of the sea we increase the freedom of our mind, but neuroscientists are still trying to understand and explain the role of the ocean in the process of healing stress and its effects on meditation and relaxation.

For years Orphek has been offering LED lighting solutions for corals in captive environments. The promotion of reefing as a hobby is also a way to bring conscience to the beauty and the importance of these creatures of the marine habitat and for all of us living in this planet. Learning about corals makes us all more involved in the process of their preservation.

This year we decided to offer you this free ambience movie called Sleep with the Ocean. The idea is that our movie will bring you the beauty of these marine creatures (under our lights) as a reminder of why we are committed to preserve them, and specially to remind us of the great emotional impact that oceans have on all of us.

We are connected to the sea in a magical way and the more connected we are, more engaged to its preservation we are all going to be.

Enjoy!

Helix 5000 Skimmer by Orphek

Helix 5000 by Orphek adds a twist on the needle wheel with a spinning “spring wheel”

Helix 5000 Skimmer by Orphek

The Helix 5000 protein skimmer from Orphek was first announced and revealed at MACNA but there’s been a whole lotta tinkering on the design in the intervening months. While the shape of the body and the pump are highly reminiscent of the RLSS skimmers from a couple years back, a handful of notable features help the Orphek Helix 5000 stand out.
Initially the Helix 5000 was a complete cone skimmer with a nifty ‘Helix’ part of the diffuser plate which encouraged the erupting bubbles to take on a circular path. along those same lines Orphek is upping the ante with an internal impeller, both above and below the diffuser plate. Again in an effort to put a real spin on the air water mixture in order to increase contact time, the impeller below the bubble plate is pushed by the flow of the incoming water, which is now offset from center to really leverage angular momentum.
